Kππ Dalitz-plot regions

We present a preliminary search for D-D mixing using the decays D → Kππ, additionally presenting Dalitz-plot distributions and a measurement of the branching ratio for this mode. A new tagging technique is used to produce the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed Dalitz plot, which in turn is used to motivate the method used for the D-mixing search. We analyze 230.4 fb of data collected from the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. Assuming CP conservation, we find RM < 0.054% with 95% confidence, and we estimate that the data are consistent with no mixing at a 4.5% confidence level. We present D-mixing results both with and without the assumption of CP conservation.

From Dalitz-plot analyses of D → πππ and D → Kππ decays, we find evidence for light and broad scalar resonances σ(500) and κ(800). From a Dalitz-plot analysis of D s → π ππ decays, we measure the masses and decay widths of the scalar resonances f0(980) and f0(1370).

We present recent results on scalar light mesons based on Dalitz plot analyses of charm decays from Fermilab experiment E791. Low mass scalar mesons are found to have large contributions to the decays studied, D → Kππ and D,D s → πππ. These results demonstrate the importance of charm decays as a new environment for the study of light meson physics.
